Types of Garage Doors

Buying a new garage door but don’t know where to start? Never fear, we have produced a buyer’s guide to garage doors that can help you make an informed decision. We sell doors from Garador, Gliderol and Aluroll, as well as made to measure options, which come in materials, such as aluminium, galvanised steel, uPVC and composite materials. You can also choose your colour and style, including wood effects and other textures to complement your property exterior. See below for more information regarding the types of garage doors we have available.

Single Skin Roller Doors

Whether you choose a single skin or insulated garage door will likely depend on how you use the space. Insulated doors can help prevent damp, reduce drafts, and minimise noise as well as the added strength and integrity they provide. However, a single skin door is cheaper to buy and install, and it is well suited for domestic and commercial garages regularly open and in frequent use, or those used for low-value storage.

Insulated Roller Garage Doors

Roller, or ‘roll up’, garage doors (also known as roller shutters) are very common in commercial settings, but can also be used in domestic settings with reduced ceiling space. They consist or slats that roll around a drum for a compact operation; a simple yet robust design, chosen for security and strength as well as aesthetics. Also, an insulated door provides greater acoustic (STC rating) and thermal (R rating) properties.

Sectional Garage Doors

Sectional garage doors consist of separate panels rather than one fixed unit. The flexibility provides space saving, as they lift vertically, without encroaching on driveway space or narrowing the entrance. As such, they are helpful for stowing broader vehicles such as 4X4s. They are available both as single skin and insulated units and come in many colours and styles.

Up & Over Doors

The most recognised of all the designs we offer, the up and over garage door pivots on a hinge system and swings up and into the ceiling space. They consist of a single, solid panel and can be both manually and automatically operated depending on preference. While the more conventional option, up and overs still have colour and style options, can be insulated, and widely remain one of the most popular choices.

Side Hinged

Side hinged garage doors usually open outward, less practical if you have a downward facing drive. However, they come in many stylish designs and can be very helpful when length is limited. Plus, you can choose options with windows, wood effect finishes and various other attributes to further enhance your property’s exterior.

Automated Operation

You can add automatic operation to almost every make and model of door, for added convenience. Fob operated mechanisms makes parking up at the end of the day a breeze. Also, adding mechanical opening is beneficial for those with reduced mobility, and improves accessibility. Most mechanisms come with 5 years warranty (excluded battery and fitting) and our team provide a fit and forget installation service.
